Thomas Costello
A Tribute to the Life of Thomas Costello (father of Nancy Duracka):
Tom was born in Chicago on May 12, 1914. After high school Tom attended Illinois Institute of Technology. In 1940 he married Agnes, the love of his life.
Tom was a World War II army veteran army. He was in the 90th Infantry Division in the Signal Corps. On D-Day, June 6, 1944, Tom landed on Utah Beach, Normandy, in the first wave of soldiers to reach shore. Tom was a brave soldier and his unit moved inland through France. After two months of heavy fighting, Tom was severely wounded and was in the hospital for ten months. He received the Purple Heart for his service in the military.
Tom was happily married to Agnes for 56 years. They have three children, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 36 years. Tom was an active member of the V.F.W. Ill. Bell Post. He volunteered as a technology trainer to young men employed at Illinois Bell.
Tom passed on peacefully. Tom’s life was a testimony of love, caring and courage to his family.
