Waldo Pool

Waldo Mead Pool was born on July 15, 1931, in Goldsberry, Missouri. He was the third of four children. His two sisters died in infancy. He had an older brother, Warren. His parents moved to the south side of Chicago, IL, when was in junior high school. He attended Chicago Vocational High School.

Waldo enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 2, 1952 and served until October 1, 1953. He served nine months during the conflict in Korea. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, with two bronze campaign stars. He continued his service to his county by serving on the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Honor Squad for several years.

He met the love of his life, Joyce Simko, and they were married October 31, 1953. They had three children, Sally, Donald, and Sandra, and seven grandchildren.

Waldo retired from General Motors after thirty-five years, worked part time for his son-in-law, and enjoyed his summers at their summer place on the Illinois River. During their marriage Waldo and Joyce visited all 50 states. Joyce passed away in 2003. Waldo passed away on March 21, 2020.
