A Tribute to the Life of Ralph Maggio (father of Frank Sorgatz):

Ralph “Rocco” Maggio was born on August 20, 1918 in Wellsville, Ohio. He had four sisters and two brothers. He was proud of the time he volunteered to serve in the US Army, from 1940-1947. He served in the 34th Division, 185th Field Artillery Battalion under Generals Mark W. Clark and Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was awarded the Purple Heart in 1943. In February, 1947, he married Marie Sorgatz. She had a son, Frank Sorgatz. Together they had two more sons, Ralph and Leon. They lived in Walton Hills, Ohio. He retired as a machinist in 1985 from Jack & Heintz, Inc. After retirement he owned two restaurants, Maggios Place and Peggy’s Lunchbox.

Ralph was at the Battle of Kasserine Pass, which took place in February, 1943, during the Tunisia Campaign of World War II. The Axis forces involved were primarily the German Italian Panzer Army led by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, popularly known as Desert Fox.

We are honored for the service of Ralph Maggio.
