Frank Charles Sorgatz
A Tribute to the Life of PFC Frank Charles Sorgatz Jr. (father of Frank Charles Sorgatz III):
Frank Charles Sorgatz was born on July 3, 1921, to parents Isabel and Francis Sorgatz in Cleveland, Ohio. Frank had four sisters, Edna, Florence, Dorothy and Hazel. On December 6, 1941 he married Marie Pinto. He was a student of East Tech High school and worked at the Cleveland Twist Drill Company before entering the Army on November 30, 1942.
Frank served with the 95th Infantry Division 377th Regiment, Company âFâ as a private. He was killed in action December 1, 1944. He received the European Theater of Operations ribbon with one battle star, combat infantryman badge, the good conduct medal and the Purple Heart Medal.
Frank had gone overseas in July. Sadly, in a Christmas card written the day before he was killed, he wrote that he had received the news of the birth of his son, named Frank Charles Sorgatz III. Frank (III) is the husband of Meri Sorgatz.
Frank Jr. is buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery in St. Avoid (Mosell) France.
