George L. Pospisil
A Tribute to the Life of George L. Pospisil (brother-in-law of Tom Duracka):
Upon finishing his high school & business college education, George wasn’t sure what type of job he would end up with. He tried many jobs until he received the letter from Uncle Sam to report for duty. George served in the U.S. Army for 2 ½ years as a Private in the Military Police, 1943 – 1945, in Camp Tonkawa, OK., transporting German prisoners. There were approximately 3000 prisoners at that camp.
After George was honorably discharged, he worked at Western Electric. He retired after 39 ½ years as a tool and die maker. There wasn’t a job that George couldn’t do or anything he couldn’t fix.
Two months before his death, he traveled to Washington, D.C. with the “Honor Flight” and enjoyed touring the many memorials dedicated to our service men and women.
On the evening of December 19, 2014, George passed away due to a heart attack. He did not suffer, and went peacefully to meet the Lord. George had a military burial at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA. George was a devout Christian. His favorite saying was “Praise the Lord!” He loved playing his harmonica whenever and wherever he could.
George married Dorothy (Duracka) on July 17, 1948 and they shared 66 happy years together. They had 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Getting together as family was of utmost importance.
