Emil J. Anderson
A Tribute to the Life of Emil J. Anderson (father of Al Anderson):
Emil was born on December 3, 1895 in Stanhope, Iowa. It was a farming town and most of the residents were of Norwegian descent. He was raised and educated in Stanhope and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Emil was a World War I veteran, drafted into the army on July 26, 1918, at Webster City, Iowa. His battle engagements were at AEF Thiancourt, France, from October 15 – November 11, 1918. He was discharged on May 24, 1919. When the war ended, he received a bronze button for his service.
In 1924, he married Ruth Glasscock. They farmed in Iowa, Missouri and then back to Iowa. Together they raised a family of 13 children. He retired from farming in 1957 and they continued to live on the farm.
He was proud to be a World War I veteran, but extremely proud of his wife and family.
P.S. Emil said he walked all over France. As a result, he had flat feet.
